Chetsada Phuwiang

Chetsada Phuwiang’s paintings explore the human figure as a site of desire, intimacy, and accumulated emotion. Working with sand and airbrush painting, he creates textured surfaces in which soft gradients, vivid colour, artificial light, and dynamic gestures evoke the visual atmosphere of contemporary nightlife. His compositions isolate and enlarge fragments of the body, such as an arm, a leg, a shoulder, or a torso, treating these often-overlooked parts as portraits in their own right.

By shifting attention away from recognizable identity, Phuwiang considers how desire, memory, and emotion can be registered through the body itself. Moving between figuration and abstraction, his practice has developed from an engagement with gay male experience and queer sensuality toward a broader inquiry into attraction, intimacy, belonging, and connection. His paintings leave space for viewers to locate their own experiences within these partial views of the body, allowing desire to emerge as both a physical and emotional condition.
