Supawich Weesapen
b. 1997, Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand
Lives and works in Bangkok, Thailand
Supawich Weesapen received his BFA in Painting from Silapakorn University. He explores the intersections of contemporary life, speculative thought, and myth, creating works from fleeting phenomena charged with enigmatic energy and radiance. Grounded in painting, his practice spans mixed media, poetry, and installation, rendering invisible power dynamics and disjunctive relation perceptible. Born into the digital age, his paintings allude to RGB colour effects, identified as the subconsciously ingrained palette of our current era. While probing our technological present and future, Weesapen also looks toward the spiritual and sublime. He references scientific theories, cosmological phenomena, folklore, origin myths, omens, and age-old symbols rooted in Tai and Northeastern Thai cultural narratives. By weaving together multiple disjointed realities and social concern, he constructs conspiracy-like narratives that reveal the entanglements between existential conditions, the unknown, and inner worlds.
