Kawita Vatanajyankur is included in the TOKYO ATLAS International Art Exhibition 2026, on view from 10 October to 20 December 2026 at the Underground Parking Lot within Aomi Minami Port Park, Tokyo, Japan.
Kawita Vatanajyankur’s “Traffic” (2026), commissioned for the exhibition, explores the notion of “ghost architecture” through an underground parking lot that has never fulfilled its intended function. In this five-channel video installation, the artist and her reflections in convex mirrors repeatedly enact gestures of entering, waiting, communicating, and departing. Through these cyclical movements, the work evokes a sense of memory without experience, blurring the boundaries between body and architecture, presence and absence, and reality and imagination.
