Latthapon Korkiatarkul: Gathering Point

Ayala Museum

Latthapon Korkiatarkul is included in Gathering Point, the ASEAN-Korea Innovative Culture Exhibition 2026. The exhibition is on view from 7 November to 13 November 2026 at Ayala Museum, Makati, Manila, Philippines.

Korkiatarkul’s City series originates from his personal practice of collecting stones and fragments that he believes may once have formed part of buildings or other man-made structures. Discovered in various places during his travels, these objects may come from cracked pavements, residential buildings, or structures that have deteriorated and fallen into decay. Korkiatarkul collects these fragments because they were once part of structures and environments created by humans, carrying traces of urban life and human activity. For Korkiatarkul, these fragments may also hold personal significance as souvenirs that connect him to the places where he discovered them.

Through his artistic process, Korkiatarkul reproduces these original objects as realistically as possible while deliberately making their replicas fragile. This approach introduces a contradiction between the solid and durable appearance of the original objects and the physical fragility of their replicas, which can easily break apart.
